heres is what is posted on the Indie site now regarding Dicky.
"Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback and for being an Indie listener. We appreciate and respect your passion. We had a great run with Dicky Barrett over the past year and we wish him the best in the future. We will be featuring a wide range of guests hosts for the next few weeks. Stay tuned."

what they should post is:
"We have no respect for our audience, the people who actually made us popular and who, in the beginning, spread the word about a crazy station where good music and cool hosts ruled. Instead we know that you are brainless idiots because otherwise, why would KROQ still be on the air?"

So far the wide range of guests hosts seem to know nada about music. If I turn on 103.1 and hear Nickelback, I'm moving to Seattle.

What's killing me is the news breaks--everyone is trying to banter with Liz the way Dicky did and failing miserably. Sigh.

Dicky didn't even seem to want to deal with news anyway! I think they MADE him. Liz is cool and so is Stacy..but I hope they look for another job!!!! I understand everyone has bills and cannot just walk out on job but they are starting to bug me too..I only listened for about 5 minutes and turned it off. It was like nails on chalkboard.

From the article: Barrett says he was told to “say the time and call letters till your [sic] blue in the face,”

That reminds me--this morning the guys filling in kept saying the Indie 103.1 and the time over and over again in this really exaggerated way. And Dave Navarro did a similar thing when he made a comment about the corporate powers wanting him to do the news but that he was going to take calls instead, dammit.

F that staion is all I can say. I'm from the east coast and only found them CUZ of dickie. Having seen the bosstones probably 30 times in my life i wanted to see what he had moved on to after the bosstones broke up. He tuned me onto some cool old bands..some cool new bands, and to be honest i spent money on itunes BECAUSE of indie and dickie's choice in music.
I always knew that Indie was a corp radio station, but i respected the fact that they were going against the grain and seemed to be succeeding. I was hoping the more successful they became the more other stations might decide to go that route. Instead of being renegades i guess they decided it was easier to be like everyone else. It's a shame.
103.1 calling itself Indie is now the biggest oxymoron I can think of. Adios u lost me as a fan.

Nice post Blakstar. Well put.

Next up on Indie: Jesus Jones followed by another idiot who's drank to much coffee and is on the air to plug his own gig.

I wake up to Indie every day.

Hearing Dicky bitch has gotten me through a LOT of horrible mornings, and I enjoy his show even more than the lovable meanderings of Jonesy.

I truly believe it was Dicky's courageous stand against the abortion ban in South Dakota that got him the boot. To have a woman from the region on the show speaking in a VERY balanced way re: the abortion bill on a morning show is fucking fearless, and I'm damn proud to be a Dicky fan.

It's really just straight up fucking stupid of them, Indie fans being independently minded as they are and prone to rebell at any given moment.

Loved the guest dj's snarky comment this morning was it? "The Not So Indie Indie"

I really doubt that DB's mainstream stand on the goobers in South Dakota was the problem. I think it had more to do with him playing too much Elvis Costello and Dusty Springfield and not enough of whoever the station wanted him to rotate. And there were little digs that I didn't notice. Remember when he pointed out that a friend told him that he could always count on hearing T&S on the MMS? The way he made the joke was so gentle that T&S probably wouldn't even be hurt. But the people who told him to play T&S every show were.

On Friday's show, Joe Escalante announced that the woman who wrote "Fired!" (and who ironically was Dicky's last guest before he was canned) is going to be reading at Skylight Books in Los Feliz tonight at 7:30. Liz Warner will also be there reading from her new book. And...according to Escalante there is going to be a top secret celebrity guest making a special appearance. Think he meant Dicky? Since I live in the neighborhood I'm stopping by to check it out--if nothing else should be fun to see Liz in person.

Crap! I'm so mad and looking for a place to vent! I finally just found out that Dicky was actually fired! I was hoping it was just a vacation!

I've been so thrilled to find Indie -- the kind of radio station I've wished for since KROQ turned into a heavy rotation hell hole in the 80s. I've spread the word, posted on blogs, sent emails to friends and turned on online listeners from around the world. And they've ruined it. They must not realize why people listen to their damn station.

I can't listen anymore. I'm disgusted.

My only hope is that someone has learned from what Indie did and they pull together a real alternative radio station and bury them.
