THE SHOW
I was distracted all morning with the heart wrenching events that are unfolding, and continue to be compounded by unforeseeable circumstances that keep presenting themselves with each passing minute in New Orleans. Paul Cook was to be on Steve’s show at noon and I can’t help thinking that had it not been for Katrina this would be a wonderful day for that reason alone. We hunkered down and did our best. An odd motivational speaker and a calendar gal, chewing Gum spokeswoman, actress, stopped in. And we gave tickets away to a presentation of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Hollywood Bowl.

THE GUESTS
Clam Lynch (“I help people”) an entertaining and an amusing performer who has an unusual one man show at the Comedy Central Stage tonight. Clam and I were pals 6 or 7 hundred years ago when we were kids he is mentioned in the BossToneS song Toxic Toast. The lovely Australian Orbit Gum Gal, Vanessa Branch came in and told us about the gum, her calendar that’ll be available soon and her role in all three Pirates of the Caribbean movies. She was quite pleasant.

Tue Aug 30th

The Show
This one was a lot of fun for reasons I can’t truly explain. Because of the recent week off, our “booking stride” was a bit clipped, so we came up sort of short with someone to tattoo today. What we did was go to our long list of MightyMorningShow listeners who have expressed interest in the possibility of someday being tattooed on the show. We pulled a name, called the person, and they agreed to get tattooed. We also played Chuck’s Emimen/Dead or Alive/multiple artists mash-up this morning. We gave away three chances to be on the Flaming Lips three-day rock n’ roll, sea cruise to Ensenada. We inadvertently had a great time despite it all.

The Guests
Indie listener Graham Reynolds. A California-raised (Diamond Bar) Yankees fan and an Arizona State college student. Captain Dave from Studio City Tattoo Parlor tattooed him. The tattoo was Anubis, an Egyptian dog/man we were calling Jar-Jar Binks. Graham was a really nice guy we enjoyed hanging out with him. Dave is one of three return Tatuesday artists and a talented and nice guy. We also talked with Dave the Bullet Smith, a daredevil that gets fired from an enormous canon into a net. Also former Goldfinger guitarist

Point is, it's a definite copy of chords up until he sings the chorus about Starbucks. Just sorry that I can't remember where I heard it.Great show by the way...I really love you.

Dicky, You're doing a fantastic job. Love the show. Great music. Witty banter.
Snappy patter. Chatty repartee. Sounds good. Keep it up.
Rock is the only thing that's exciting right now - a lot of exceptional
groups and artists. Hip hop's hit the wall - just watch the VMAs.
You played Voicst this morning.terrific song and then.you played something else vaguely ska about James Bond. What was it? Indy is the only game in town. You're terrific, I'm a friend of Steve Jones and Michael Steele and I hope to meet you one of these days soon.
Keep up the great work. I'm a big fan.

Thu + Fri Aug 25th + 26th "... great time"

"LLLLLIIIIIIIZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "

Stacey "I like the way you get back at them, by giving them a bigger tip"

THE LOST MIGHTY MORNING EPISODE

It’s the day after the Indie 103 1 celebration. I went. I had a great time. Some of the lad’s from my childhood neighborhood were with me, Gates, and Zoop and El Buck (everyone where I’m from has a nick-name and a drinking problem) I had a great time. The Stella drafts were fantastic. T.K. is the “salt of the earth” real sweet guy. Mr.. Steele was there in all his glory. Some Freddy’s were floating around. I had a great time. Danny Masterson one hell of a guy couldn't’t have been nicer. We had Sib, his wife, Stacey, Chuck and his gal, Sara, Liz Warner. I had a great time. The staff at this joint was pea brained and very lucky I was having a great time. Patrick, Terry his kid, Dawn, The Sales Crew, a Suicide Girl or two. I made it in but barely. I had a great time. At some point Tig Notaro was on the show. I had a great time, but never again. I lost the show. Here are some letters I got on Thursday.

· Thank God you’re back on the air this week- it really sucked without you.Congrats on the show (I know you hate praise but you deserve it). Take care Love, Alessandra

· Hey dickie, check out the commentary by Jim Wallis, from Sojourners
Even Evangelical Christians (like myself) think that Robertson is wrong!
-Kenny P.S. I'm a big fan of Jim Wallis. He's a left-leaning Evangelical who is not afraid to call out the Christian right for their hypocrisy.

· Hey Dick- Franny here. I'm laid off, doing tons of work to my house, so I hear your show all the time. Nice work on the wide variety of songs. Can you squeeze in "Idiots at Happy Hour" sometime-that'll probably fit in your mix. Keep up the good work, and I'll talk to you later

· Dicky & The Gang, YOUR SHOW IS STILL JUST THE BEST…I KNOW I HAVE EMAILED THIS TO YOU BEFORE, BUT MAN…YOU GUYS ARE JUST, WORDS CANNOT EXPLAIN…YOU SHOW IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MY GOOD MOOD EVERY MORNING HERE AT WORK.KEEP ON ROCKING…AND NEVER LEAVE US…WE WOULD JUST DIE WITH OUT YOUS GUYS! XOXO, Elma T, Pico Rivera (Who listens to ya while at work in LA)

Elma you are screaming, my head…Dicky

LETTER

Hey Dicky: I can't believe you know that Buster Keaton/Fatty Arbuckle moment with the sack of flour! That was Buster Keaton's very first day as a movie actor - Fatty hired him as a side-kick, and that was the first scene he ever shot. "The Butcher Boy", 1917! And it is astounding how hard he takes it. Anyway, thanks for all you do.
We love your show.

THE SHOW
Like so many of the MMS’s I was proud of this one. We had a groundbreaking, envelope pushing film maker, and also a life long hero of mine on phone. We also had members of Southern California’s premiere, second wave, but very traditional, Ska Band in the studio.

THE GUESTS
Terry Gilliam, creator of such films as Baron Von Munchausen, The Fisher King, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and many more. He was the American member of the English comedy troupe Monty Pythons Flying Circus and created the animation for the BBC TV show, and he was really interesting to talk to. My only regret was I didn't ask him where he got the coca-nuts. Then we had Greg Lee and Alex Desert on the air with us. They are the dynamic duo in the amazing L.A. Soul/Ska band HEPCAT. Nice and easy Tatuesday just the way we like them. A guest, an artist, some ink, some blood, good music, good fun, and someone wins a Suicide Girls DVD. The signal in The O.C. was not working well and clouds, believe it or not, played a part. A real shame because a Venice Beach artist was tattooing a member of one of Orange County’s most popular bands. Our weak sig. was a common theme.

THE GUESTS
Kevin Hinton from Old Glory Tattoo and Barber Shop in Venice put an unusual but very beautiful Asian, flame and nautical star piece on the arm of Waxapple member Marcus Irvin. "Henry, Do you have a pen ?"

Those in the know..( ie on Rollins mailing list )..
Wednesdays its The Monday Night Team back together again.
Henry , Heidi and Engineer X .

"Mashup of the morning . From Vanilla Ices hard to obtain 2nd lp vs Henry Rollins."

Also from Henrys newsletter;
"About the books. The first one is called Fanatic! I believe I talked about it in the last newsletter but in case I didn't, here's an explanation of what it is. Fanatic! is the very expanded notes from the radio show called Harmony In My Head I was doing last year in Los Angeles on Indie 103.1 FM. I annotated all the songs I played and posted the notes on the website I had for the show. When I took the site down, I got a lot of letters bemoaning the disappearance of the notes. I put them all in one file to send to some of the moaners and when I read through them, I started re-writing and adding and pretty soon the thing had grown by about forty thousand words. I added anecdotes about shows I had seen and some interesting website and label information. One thing lead to another and it became a book. We made a cover with some of the singles from my collection and all the chapter heading pages are graced with rare ticket stubs, flyers, sheet music covers and other stuff from my shelves. It's basically one man jumping up and down about the music he loves. I hope you like it."

So Thursday is Doc and Watusi Rodeo.
Is Friday going to be Steve, Camp Freddy, Rob, Brent, TK, Shovel, wayne, or who

THE SHOW
What a way to finish the week, and start our first vacation. After this morning, I’m not sure if we’ll get wage increases, or if the locks will be changed when we return. We talked with the talented, we talked with the strange, and we ate Tofu.

THE GUESTS

The super talented and very beautiful Donita Sparks from the band L7, who will soon be releasing a solo-C.D. came in and hung out with us. Andre Benjamin (Andre 3000) phoned and told us about his new film Four Brothers. We played The Supersuckers version of Hey Yeah! for him. He told us he was listening to a lot Ramones when he wrote that one, we lost our Indie minds. Scarlet from the L.A. Tofu Festival came in and fed me Tofu-everything (don’t tell the Lads back home, but it was quite good) Then in came Don Barris and his Ding Dong Show. He brought Blue Iris (the very old porn star) Mary Jane (Betty Page looking fetish model) and Brian Cosmee (Don’s best friend in the world and the King of Poontang) It was fascinating to say the least.

Tue Aug 9th

American Hardcore Tuesday
( SM This was an astonishing show. Just too short.
When they do these they should cut down on the
other show idents and maybe postpone the news. )

"Sorry its got a swear in it "

"i've run out of time .."

THE SHOW
The American Hardcore, Tatuesday on the MightyMorningShow. When you look at the length of the Song List it’s difficult to fathom just how Guest driven this morning’s MightyMorningShow was. I was more then happy with how well this show went and don’t mind telling you I was apprehensive about it before hand. It is difficult to cover such a specific genre of music during morning drive, show it respect, and not have people with predetermined notion heading for the hills. I use Liz as a barometer for that kind of thing and she called the show “fascinating” In the top five all time for callers and E-mails after. All the calls and E’s were very positive. People were beside themselves with joy, and I like that.

THE GUESTS
Jonathan Anastasia, long, long, long time friend, one time bass player for DYS and Slapshot as well. Jon was inked on his sternum by artist and MMS visitor, Kevin Quinn from True Tattoo in Hollywood. Steve Depace drummer for the band Flipper he’s playing the Save CBGB’s Show in New York. Author of the quintessential book about American Hardcore called “American Hardcore” His latest book is titled “45 Dangerous Minds” Both books are fantastic and so were all my guests. Very disappointed one time Circle Jerk, and Bad Religion guitar player Greg Hetson, after promising us he’d be their, failed to show up, or let us know he wasn’t going to be there. Ultimately and in hind sight we didn’t need him.

THE SONGS
1. SICK OF IT ALL -- SLATTY
2. STIFF LITTLE FINGERS -- GOTTA GET AWAY
3. BAD BRAINS -- BIG TAKEOVER
4. SUPERSUCKERS -- BORN WITH A TAIL

THE SHOW
I don’t want to jinx it but Monday picked up where Friday left off. Stacey got a surf lesson from our own Surf Junkie Jeff, and we discussed that. I talked about The Pamela Anderson Roast I attended the night before. It was a great time while it simultaneously destroyed my faith in everything. Meg McQuarrie, a founder of the Elixir fund, and a delightful, warm hearted woman. David Deluise, son of show business legend Dom. Dave's also Meg’s close friend, an actor, and a great radio show guest. We called his father, it was Dom’s birthday, what a thrill to talk to him. Very entertaining people, and a nice time.

A very special show musically. I asked Chavez, who sends me so many of the songs I play every morning, to put together the entire playlist. Almost all of the tracs he selected. Many I would have pulled myself. Some were pleasant surprises. The morning sounded great. He has impeccable musical (it seems to mirror mine)
These are the only tracs Chavez didn’t pick
1) For laughs
2) A nice morning shortie
4) PRM
5) I dedicated this to Chavy
28) He picked a different S-side J. I was dying to hear this one –

I’m trying to catch up Dicky
